2019 Forster Musenhang Riesling - Dry

Musenhang is our coolest site located at the very top of the Forst’s forest edge. This wine impresses with its typical chalky minerality, dried herbs and delicate toasty aromas. Despite a distinct acidic structure, the 2019 Musenhang enthuses with its melting and power. The length and minerality promise enormous potential.

The VDP.Erstes Gewächs® can be most easily compared to the French Premier Cru in Burgundy. VDP.Erstes Gewächs® wines are the dry wines from our classified top sites from VDP.Erste Lage®. These sites must undergo a new test that confirms their site quality and wine quality. Our VDP.Erstes Gewächs® wines hardly differ from a Grosses Gewächs® in terms of yields and ageing, site/location is the only difference.

Soil:

The location of Musenhang is becoming more attractive due to climate change. Due to the immediate proximity to the edge of the forest, a special microclimate is created. The early morning sun reaches Musenhang, and in the afternoon the vineyard is in full shade. This makes Musenhang our coolest site on the edge of the Forst forest. Red sandstone and limestone with hints of occassional basalt from the nearby „Pechsteinkopf“.
